S.B. Divya's debut novel, Machinehood, is a plausible near-future, well researched, tech-thriller with three-dimensional characters and a unique treatment of the rise of machine rights as AI achieves new levels of complexity. While this is Divya's first novel, she is far from new to science fiction. She is co-editor of Escape Pod, a magazine podcast that publishes some of the best short SF out there today.
"Homeland meets Zero Dark Thirty in this science fiction thriller about artificial intelligence, sentience, and labor rights in a near future dominated by the gig economy." Seeing that description, Machinehood sounded quite intriguing to me, so I jumped on reading it as soon as it came out. I was not disappointed!
S.B. Divya was kind enough to come on to Exploring Tomorrow so we could have a conversation about her novel and her work promoting more optimistic science fiction through Escape Pod. Take a listen below to my conversation with her. You should also subscribe to Escape Pod where ever you grab your podcasts. And definitely grab a copy of Machinehood everywhere books are sold.
